Question 1

What is the difference between car valeting and car detailing?

Accepted Answer

Valeting is professional maintenance cleaning — a full valet covers a thorough hand wash, interior vacuum, upholstery cleaning, dashboard and trim treatment, glass, wheels, and protective wax. It maintains a vehicle's appearance and cleanliness. Detailing is restoration: paint correction using machine polishing to remove swirl marks and scratches, clay bar decontamination, and ceramic coating application for long-term protection. Valeting is what you do regularly — every 4–8 weeks — to keep a vehicle looking its best. Detailing is the deeper process done every 1–3 years to restore paint to its optimum condition. Most vehicles benefit from both.

Question 2

What is included in a professional car valet?

Accepted Answer

A full professional valet covers every surface of the vehicle. Exterior: snow foam pre-wash to loosen contamination, two-bucket hand wash, wheel and tyre detailing, door shuts and jambs cleaned, glass polished streak-free, and wax or sealant protection applied. Interior: professional vacuum throughout including boot and seat rails, upholstery cleaned, dashboard and all trim surfaces treated with UV-protective dressing, door cards and pockets detailed, and interior glass cleaned. A full valet also includes clay bar decontamination. A maintenance valet covers the exterior wash and a basic interior clean — the full valet goes significantly deeper on every surface.

Question 3

How long does a car valet take?

Accepted Answer

A maintenance valet takes 60–90 minutes. A full valet takes 3–5 hours for a standard hatchback or saloon, and 4–6 hours for larger vehicles including estates, SUVs, and 7-seaters. Interior-only and exterior-only services run at 90 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on the vehicle size and condition. Heavily neglected vehicles — those that haven't been professionally cleaned in a long time — may take longer. We give an honest assessment before starting rather than rush the work and deliver a compromised result. We quote realistic timeframes, not aspirational ones.

Question 4

Is professional car valeting worth the money?

Accepted Answer

Yes — professional valeting delivers results that home washing cannot match. Commercial hot water extraction machines, steam cleaners, and professional-grade protection products produce results unavailable with household equipment. Correctly applied wax or sealant after a professional hand wash protects clear coat far more effectively than automated car wash treatment. For vehicles used regularly in Stockport — exposed to road salt from October to March, Greater Manchester's persistent rainfall, and iron fallout from the M60 motorway corridor — regular professional valeting prevents paint degradation that would otherwise require expensive correction work later.

Question 5

What do professional car valeters use that I cannot get at home?

Accepted Answer

The primary differences are in equipment and product quality. Professional valeters use commercial hot water extraction machines that operate at temperatures and pressures unavailable in domestic models — removing staining embedded throughout upholstery fibres rather than surface layers only. Commercial steam cleaners sanitise at temperatures domestic appliances cannot reach. Panel inspection lighting reveals surface defects invisible in normal light. Professional-grade ceramic coatings and paint sealants are not available in consumer retail. pH-neutral shampoos, iron fallout removers, and clay bar decontamination products are consumer-available — knowing how to sequence and apply them correctly is the professional skill.

Question 6

What's the difference between a full valet and a maintenance valet?

Accepted Answer

A maintenance valet (60–90 minutes) covers the essentials: exterior snow foam and hand wash, interior vacuum, dashboard wipe, and glass clean. It is a maintenance service — ideal between full valets or when the vehicle is in reasonable condition. A full valet (3–5 hours) adds clay bar decontamination, thorough upholstery cleaning or hot water extraction, comprehensive dashboard and trim detailing, door card cleaning, boot treatment, wheel and arch cleaning to a higher standard, and wax or sealant paint protection. For a vehicle that hasn't been professionally cleaned recently, or that has upholstery soiling and environmental contamination, a full valet is the appropriate starting point.

Question 7

When should I choose a full valet over a maintenance valet?

Accepted Answer

Choose a full valet when the vehicle hasn't been professionally cleaned in more than 4–6 weeks, when upholstery is visibly soiled or stained, when paintwork feels rough to the touch after washing (a sign of bonded contamination), or when preparing a vehicle for sale or lease return. After the initial full valet, maintenance valets every 4–6 weeks maintain the standard effectively. A maintenance valet on a heavily contaminated vehicle will not achieve the same result as on one recently detailed — do not expect a maintenance valet to substitute for a full one on a neglected vehicle.

Question 8

What does a maintenance valet include?

Accepted Answer

A maintenance valet is a professional maintenance clean covering the fundamentals in 60–90 minutes. Exterior: snow foam pre-wash, two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo, wheels and tyres cleaned, exterior glass polished streak-free. Interior: full vacuum including boot, dashboard and centre console wiped with surface-appropriate dressing, door cards wiped, interior glass cleaned, floor mats shaken and spot-cleaned. A maintenance valet maintains a vehicle that is already in good condition. It is not designed to address deeply soiled upholstery, bonded paintwork contamination, or vehicle preparation for sale.

Question 9

What is an interior-only valet?

Accepted Answer

An interior valet focuses exclusively on the cabin — ideal when the exterior is in reasonable condition but the interior has accumulated significant soiling, pet hair, food residue, or odour. It includes full professional vacuum (seats, carpets, boot, door pockets, and crevices), steam cleaning of fabric surfaces, hot water extraction for upholstery and carpet, dashboard and all trim surfaces deep-cleaned and dressed, door cards and pockets detailed, interior glass polished, and floor mats cleaned separately. For Stockport family vehicles and dog owners particularly, an interior-only valet is often the most productive service — targeting where the vehicle needs the most attention.

Question 10

How does mobile car valeting work?

Accepted Answer

Mobile valeting brings a fully equipped professional service to wherever your vehicle is parked — your home driveway, workplace car park, or any agreed location. Our mobile unit carries a fresh water tank, power generator, all professional cleaning equipment, and every product needed for the service. You book a time and location, confirm the service, and we arrive ready to work. You do not need to be present throughout — many customers leave us working while they are indoors or at the office. For customers across Stockport and Greater Manchester, this eliminates the journey to and from a fixed valet centre entirely.

Question 11

Do you need electricity or water from my property for mobile valeting?

Accepted Answer

No. Our mobile unit is completely self-contained with its own fresh water supply and power generator. We require nothing from your property except safe access to the vehicle and a parking space alongside it — sufficient room to open all doors and access the boot. No power sockets, no hosepipe connection, no garden tap access. This means we can work on driveways, apartment block car parks, workplace car parks, and any other location where a standard parking space is available. If you have a parking space, we can come to you — anywhere across SK postcodes without call-out charges.

Question 12

Can you valet my car at my workplace in Stockport?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Workplace valeting is popular with customers across Stockport, Manchester, and the wider M60 corridor — the vehicle is cleaned while you work, returned spotless when you finish, with no time lost. We have worked at business parks, office car parks, retail sites, and industrial estates across all SK postcodes and Greater Manchester. Some workplaces require contractor sign-in or have specific parking areas for external service providers — we are experienced with standard workplace logistics and can work within whatever site requirements apply. Contact us to confirm your specific location.

Question 13

What's the advantage of mobile valeting over an automated car wash?

Accepted Answer

Automated car washes with rotating brushes damage paint progressively — brushes carry grit from previous vehicles and create swirl marks (fine circular scratches) across the clear coat with every visit. These are cumulative and permanent. Mobile professional valeting uses the two-bucket hand wash method with clean microfibre mitts and pH-neutral shampoo — safe technique that cleans without causing paint damage. Professional valeting also decontaminates the paintwork, cleans wheel arches and door shuts properly, and applies actual paint protection. The result is categorically better than an automated wash, with no progressive paint damage in the process.

Question 14

What is included in an interior car valet?

Accepted Answer

A professional interior valet covers every surface inside the cabin. Full vacuum throughout — seats, carpets, boot, door pockets, seat rails, and all crevices with commercial vacuum and detailing attachments. Upholstery cleaning — fabric surfaces cleaned with steam and hot water extraction depending on soiling level. Dashboard, centre console, door cards, and all trim surfaces cleaned with surface-appropriate products and dressed with UV-protective interior protectant. Air vents cleaned with detailing brushes. Interior glass polished streak-free. Floor mats cleaned separately. For leather interiors, leather-appropriate cleaner and conditioner replaces fabric treatment. Boot carpets and linings included.

Question 15

Can interior valeting remove stubborn stains from seats and carpets?

Accepted Answer

Most embedded stains respond well to professional hot water extraction — including coffee, food, juice, mud, and the majority of liquid spills, including old marks that have set over time. Old stains are less predictable than fresh ones: many come out completely, some significantly fade, and a small number cannot be reversed — certain inks, dye transfer, and chemically fixed compounds fall into this category. We assess each vehicle on arrival and give an honest expectation before starting. Professional extraction produces results that household upholstery sprays cannot replicate, regardless of stain age.

Question 16

How long does an interior valet take to dry?

Accepted Answer

Dashboard, trim, and hard surfaces are dry immediately after treatment. Fabric upholstery treated with hot water extraction is typically dry within 2–4 hours in warm conditions. In Greater Manchester's cooler, more humid weather, 4–8 hours is more realistic. We use air movers to accelerate drying where possible. Seats can be sat on while slightly damp — a microfibre towel over the seat during the immediate post-service period is advisable on lighter fabrics. For cold-weather bookings, booking earlier in the day allows maximum drying time before the vehicle is needed.

Question 17

Can you remove cigarette smoke smell from a car interior?

Accepted Answer

Yes — though smoke odour is one of the most persistent to eliminate. Smoke particles and nicotine residues deposit on every interior surface — headlining, plastics, glass, fabric, and ventilation systems. Our treatment includes steam cleaning all soft surfaces, cleaning all hard surfaces, sanitising the ventilation system, an enzyme treatment across all fabric and upholstery, and an ozone treatment for persistent cases. Ozone permeates the entire cabin including the ventilation system, destroying odour compounds at the molecular level rather than masking them temporarily. Heavily smoked vehicles may require a follow-up session to fully clear deep-set residues.

Question 18

How do I maintain my car interior between professional valets?

Accepted Answer

Monthly vacuuming of seats and carpets removes surface debris before it embeds further into the fabric. Deal with spills immediately — blot rather than rub, and rinse with cold water; the longer a spill sits, the deeper it penetrates. Use removable floor mats that can be shaken clean, and replace them when beyond cleaning. Avoid eating in the vehicle where possible — food residue is the primary source of persistent odour and staining. A UV-protective interior trim spray every 4–6 weeks prevents dashboard fading and cracking. These habits make each professional valet more effective and extend the interval between full interior treatments.

Question 19

What is the safest way to wash a car?

Accepted Answer

The two-bucket hand wash method with pH-neutral shampoo and clean microfibre wash mitts is the safest approach. One bucket holds the clean shampoo solution; the second holds rinse water with a grit guard at the bottom. After washing each panel, the mitt is rinsed in the rinse bucket — the grit guard traps abrasive particles so they do not return to the paint surface. The mitt re-enters the clean shampoo solution without grit transfer. Snow foam is applied first as a pre-wash to loosen and remove loose contamination before any mitt contact. This sequence eliminates the primary cause of swirl marks — grit dragging across clear coat during washing.

Question 20

What is snow foam and why do professional valeters use it?

Accepted Answer

Snow foam is a thick, pH-neutral pre-wash foam applied before the contact hand wash stage. It clings to vertical surfaces, dwelling for 5–10 minutes while its surfactants loosen and break down road film, light dirt, and contamination. When rinsed off, a significant proportion of surface contamination is removed without any contact with the paint. This matters because every time a wash mitt contacts paint, any abrasive particle on the mitt or panel risks causing a micro-scratch. Snow foam maximises contamination removal before the contact wash begins, dramatically reducing swirl mark risk during the hand wash stage.

Question 21

What is the difference between car wax and a paint sealant?

Accepted Answer

Carnauba wax is a natural product providing warm, deep gloss and hydrophobic water beading — it lasts approximately 4–8 weeks under typical Greater Manchester conditions, where persistent rainfall, road contamination, and regular washing accelerate its depletion. Synthetic paint sealants are polymer-based and last significantly longer — typically 3–6 months — with better chemical resistance than natural wax. Both require periodic reapplication. For vehicles in Greater Manchester exposed to persistent rainfall and winter road salt, a synthetic sealant applied after a full valet provides meaningfully better protection and longevity than carnauba wax alone.

Question 22

Should I have a clay bar treatment with my valet?

Accepted Answer

Clay bar decontamination is included in a full valet and strongly recommended for any vehicle that hasn't had one recently. Over time, bonded contamination accumulates on paintwork — iron fallout from motorway and rail traffic, tar spots, traffic film, and industrial deposits — that washing alone does not remove. Clay bar physically lifts and removes this contamination from the clear coat surface. Running a finger over contaminated paint feels rough; after clay bar, it feels smooth. This decontamination step is essential before applying any protective product — wax, sealant, or ceramic coating will not bond properly to a contaminated surface.

Question 23

Can you remove pet hair from car seats and carpets?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Pet hair is one of the most challenging interior contaminants to remove effectively — it works into the fabric weave and becomes statically bonded to fibres. We use specialist rubber agitation tools and high-suction commercial vacuums to mechanically extract pet hair from seats, carpets, boot liners, and door card fabric inserts before hot water extraction addresses the organic contamination pet hair leaves behind. For very heavily infested vehicles, a dedicated pet hair removal service combined with upholstery cleaning delivers the most thorough result. Standard vacuuming alone leaves a significant proportion of embedded pet hair in the fabric.

Question 24

What is the best professional treatment for car interior odours?

Accepted Answer

Odour elimination requires identifying and removing the source, not masking it. Steam cleaning and hot water extraction remove odour-causing organic material from fabric fibres. Enzyme treatments break down protein-based odour sources — pet urine, food residue, body fluids — at a molecular level. Ozone treatment is the most comprehensive option: ozone gas permeates the entire cabin including ventilation systems, door seals, and all upholstery, oxidising odour molecules completely. For persistent odours including smoke, dog, and damp musty smells, ozone treatment combined with thorough interior cleaning delivers the most complete result available without masking or temporary cover.

Question 25

Can you valet a very dirty or neglected car?

Accepted Answer

Yes — heavily neglected vehicles are some of the most rewarding to restore. Vehicles that haven't been professionally cleaned in years, with significant upholstery soiling, mud-caked wheel arches, and thick traffic film on paintwork are entirely manageable. We assess the vehicle on arrival, set honest expectations about what will and will not be achievable, and quote accordingly. Some neglected vehicles require more time or a follow-up session for specific areas — we advise this upfront. The before-and-after transformation on a genuinely neglected vehicle is typically dramatic. Heavy neglect is not a reason to avoid booking — it is exactly the situation we exist to address.

Question 26

What should I do if it rains on the day of my valet?

Accepted Answer

Light rain does not prevent valeting — exterior protection products are applied after the vehicle is clean and dried, and light rain during washing does not compromise the process. Heavy or persistent rain may affect exterior service quality, particularly wax and sealant application. In that case, we can complete interior work on the day and reschedule the exterior elements, or reschedule the full service. We always contact customers proactively about adverse weather on the day and discuss options rather than arriving and doing a compromised job. Weather rescheduling carries no cancellation charge for customers across Stockport.

Question 27

How much does mobile car valeting cost in Stockport?

Accepted Answer

Maintenance valet starts from £45 for a standard hatchback; full valet from £90. Interior-only service from £80; exterior-only from £65. Specialist services — pet hair removal, odour elimination with ozone, upholstery hot water extraction — are priced from £60–£120 depending on the vehicle and extent of contamination. Larger vehicles — estates, SUVs, and 7-seaters — are priced proportionally higher to reflect additional time and product required. There are no call-out charges for SK postcode customers. All prices are confirmed before we start — we give an honest quote on inspection rather than quoting blind and adding charges afterwards.

Question 28

How often should I valet my car in Stockport?

Accepted Answer

For most vehicles on Greater Manchester roads, a full valet every 4–8 weeks is appropriate. Stockport's road conditions — winter salt from October to March, persistent rainfall, iron fallout from the M60 corridor, and urban traffic film — mean contamination builds up faster than in less demanding environments. Maintenance valets every 2–4 weeks maintain the standard between full valets cost-effectively. Vehicles with ceramic coating protection need less frequent valeting — the hydrophobic surface repels contamination more effectively and makes each wash easier. For working vehicles, tradespeople's vans, and family cars with children or pets, monthly professional cleaning is the practical minimum.

Question 29

How do I keep my car clean for longer after a professional valet?

Accepted Answer

Park away from bird perches and trees where possible — bird droppings and tree sap cause rapid clear coat damage, particularly in summer heat. Rinse the vehicle with clean water after driving in heavy rain during winter, when road salt residue is present on the surface. Use removable floor mats that can be shaken clean and replace them when beyond recovery. A quick rinse wash fortnightly is far more effective than waiting for a full clean every 6–8 weeks — contamination removed early causes less damage and costs less to address. Applying a wax or sealant as part of each full valet provides a sacrificial layer that takes the damage before the clear coat does.

Question 30

What is the best maintenance schedule for a valeted car?

Accepted Answer

Start with a full valet to bring the vehicle to a clean baseline. Follow with a maintenance valet every 4–6 weeks to maintain the standard. Repeat a full valet every 12–16 weeks or when significant soiling warrants it. Have clay bar decontamination done at least once per year to remove bonded contamination before it etches into the clear coat. Consider an annual paint sealant or ceramic coating maintenance top-up to keep protection effective. Vehicles with ceramic coating can extend maintenance valet intervals to 6–8 weeks and significantly extend the time between full valets, as contamination bonds far less aggressively to a coated surface.
