Track Day Car Preparation

Pre-track inspection, protection, and post-track cleaning — how to prepare your car for track days at Oulton Park, Aintree and beyond.

Detailing TipsBy SRV Detailing Team

Why Detailing Matters Before and After Track Days

Track days are exhilarating but hard on your car's appearance. Brake dust at track temperatures bakes onto wheels and paint within minutes. Stone chips from other cars are inevitable. Rubber marbles and tyre debris coat lower panels. Preparing your car before a track day with protective coatings — and cleaning thoroughly afterwards — prevents permanent damage to your vehicle's finish.

Pre-Track Day Preparation

Apply sacrificial wax or spray sealant to all lower panels for stone chip protection

Coat wheels with a ceramic spray to make brake dust removal easier post-track

Clean and dress tyres — inspect for damage before high-speed use

Tape vulnerable areas (bumper edges, mirror backs) with clear protection film

Remove interior loose items that could become projectiles

Clean windscreen inside and out for maximum visibility

Post-Track Cleaning Is Critical

After a track day, wash your car as soon as possible. Brake dust that has been heated to extreme temperatures bonds to surfaces rapidly and becomes much harder to remove over time. Use a dedicated iron fallout remover on both paintwork and wheels to dissolve ferrous particles before they etch into the clear coat or wheel finish.
